This map was part of a leaflet published by Mobil Gas (trademarked by Standard-Vacuum Oil Company) in 1958. The company later merged and became ExxonMobil, and the gas station Esso became part of ExxonMobil. To this day, you can still find Esso gas stations in Hong Kong. The map intended to promote Mobil Gas in Hong Kong. Drafted by General Drafting Co. Inc. in the USA, the primary audience for the map is tourists. Hoping tourists will drive around Hong Kong to locate a mobile gas station when their rental car runs out of gas. Therefore, it's most likely a free pick-up item at Kai Tak Airport.
The two-sided map mainly shows the roads and motorways of Hong Kong along with a few other features, e.g., golf courses, post offices, and hills. The front side shows the complete map of Hong Kong and New Territories. The back side has a more detailed drawing of southern Kowloon and northern Hong Kong Island. One unique feature of the map is that it also illustrates some key signage of Hong Kong, teaching tourists to understand instructions while driving.
